Medical Virtual Assistance: A Forum and Blog Commenting Experience (Part One)
The sun was hot upon my skin, while the soft breeze tasted salty, one warm day sailing on the tranquil sea – would have been a good start for a blog post on a new experience. That is not the case here, however.
This is more like: One day at work, my supervisor discussed with me a new task assignment. I had to make comments on blogs and forums for a client who sells do-it-yourself test kits as part of their marketing ploy. Not just any blogs at that, I need to log into health or medical blogs wherein people either post health-related problems or medical discoveries and information, and even health tips.
Something I have not done before – comment on forum and blog sites. I was never even inclined to join one. To be honest, I’m not even such a fan of social networking sites before this. And as if the whole universe conspired against me that day, it was on a subject that was making my brain quiver in anticipation. Hah, I wish! It will be truthful to say that I felt a pang of trepidation. I asked myself: Could I do it?
The experience in my opinion…
We all have problems, various kinds at that and every one of us has a different approach in dealing with it. There are people who would keep problems to themselves, telling no one and finding solutions on their own. On the other hand, some others need to ask opinions from those who might have gone through similar predicaments in the past to help them solve the dilemma they face at the moment.
Although, there are times when after reading a post, I can’t help but think to myself: Was that a problem? Or, sometimes simply: Seriously? But, I don’t believe in being rude and calling people out unnecessarily as other members often do. I will merely shake my head and look for a more sensible post.
Believe it or not, this is how online forums came about. They stemmed from our intrinsic need to share, seek approval, or look for help.
Forums are a kind of virtual community that act as a support group most of the time. You can find them in the web on practically every topic imaginable. And, guess what? People flock in them just so they could get as many feedback and opinions from strangers who come upon their post. Some develop virtual friendships, over time, from the little support group they have created.
Now, forums have become an effective target for online marketers. Its large number of membership give such an ideal platform to get a brand or a business known. Online marketers or business owners would join this forums to subtly advertise their products or service to reach a more specific audience for their marketing pitches. There are also those who are callously blunt to just directly promote their business.
In my opinion, if you want it to work you need to be more discreet. You would go a long way if you try to earn the trust and respect of the forum’s population than deploying bluntness. For one, your account could get reported and maybe even banned if any one of the members flag a post or comment you made.
